"Drawing a Bagel "
Remote Workshop
On 10 May,2020 Sunday
Workshop notes are summerised here.
1.Some basics
The notes on the rights indicate that organic food can be observed into basic geometries like square and triangles.
To level it up, one trick is to add thickness and volume so they feel real and with weight.
Another trick is to pretend a light source, therefore shadow is naturally created. Drawing shadows helps viewers understanding the placing and interactions of each objects.
Picking a logical height and angle is important, as it answers to the question what details on the food you want to show and to emphasize.
Cezanne is awesome!
2. How to make a bagel?
Yes, bagel is the kind of bread.
To make the bagel literally, you need to hole a dough and boil it before baking. Cut it in halves and top them with your choice of ingredients.
Starting with a bagel is fun due to its iconic shape and the versatile possibilities. A perfect element for practicing. With text and annotated drawing, it is possible to use the drawing technique to make a recipe, or something trendy like visual-journaling.
Today, given the special occasion of mother's day, is a black&white demo for a "bagel-inspired Mother'day card."
3. To construct a food drawing
Here are some tips.
Always have a scrap paper next to you for brainstorming.
Feel free to search online (Pinterest) for visual references how to capture the essence of the ingredients.
Sketch it out with pencils to have a grasp of the look and feel. Then adding lines with different thickness (thicker outlines and lines in the shade.)
It is difficult to depict food without colors. So we've done well.
Happy Mother's Day and happy Sunday!
Bon Appetit!
